10:55 The line between personal and confidential
In an era of social networking the line between personal and Privacy little data is erased. Many people have reported throughout the world where and what they are doing at the moment with an accuracy of up to five meters, and anybody that does not cause concern. But what if these and more are available any confidential information to anyone without your knowledge? How? The answer is simple as the idea itself and the convenience of service under the name - internet-banking. It is very convenient to monitor the account and know where to spend money from your credit card, reading the RSS feed in your favorite reader over a secure connection. Convenient and safe, but not always ... This morning, having read all your feeds with Google Reader, and a little more free time, decided to read "Featured News". Attention was drawn to the following entry in the feed: Apparently Google decided that I would be interested in a channel that signed my countryman from Dnepropetrovsk. All would be nothing if it is not Channel billing client of one of the top Ukrainian banks. Open a channel, I learned a lot about the customer, for example: Name and address, as customer service has paid intercom: What kind of domains he bought: What computer, presumably, enjoy: And just where and how much money to buy food, miscellaneous goods, dined at restaurants, ran the car and in which cities were judging by the addresses of the terminals. With the first record dating back 03.03.2010, reader faithfully collected 115 accounts and shown in the public domain. I'm a decent person, so I called customer support online banking with an indication of problems of access to any confidential data. About an hour I spent on the dispatch issue because of problems with the chat tech support. Statement every time persistently asked my contact details, but knowing about the long arm of the Bank and the fear of men in black who priydut me with zabyvatelem - politely evaded the answer, citing the lack of connection with my client and the Internet Bankin at all. Finally I got the answer that the problem is not theirs, and the client, who added a RSS feed reader, thereby personally gave access to their accounts: I have cited only the end of the conversation, because above said that there were problems with the chat - I'm always a bouncer there. Reply I am not quite satisfied. And what about banking secrecy, the protection of confidential information? Is it simply a person can personally give the public access to their accounts and in general to your life? Therefore decided to appeal directly to the customer. Find it not difficult, since all information about him I had known. Calling him at work, I described the situation to him. From the conversation realized that he just added a RSS feed from your account at the bank akkakunt Google Reader, do not assume that all so turn out. Thanking each other, we in this good-bye. A sense of accomplishment through me, but today was forced to think seriously about the role of Google in our lives on credit cards and bank secrecy laws. All three sides of the story in some way guilty, Google is the default allows access to personal tapes, bank - because it gives Google's spiders to read the tape, and certainly inconsiderate customer. Be careful, always and everywhere!
