Saudi Arabia became the second country to ban blackberry

Went up the rumors were true: Saudi Arabia has already become the second country, lock the BlackBerry device on its own territory for reasons of national security. Although the actual cause of dissatisfaction was not possible to listen to the intelligence unit.

The ban came into force after August 6, after the provision of telecommunications companies to delay, during which the operators had to somehow cause the device (and in particular the ability to encrypt e-mail) in accordance with the laws of the country.

Commission on Communications and Information Technology said the country has warned local providers STC, Mobily and Zain that they will have to stop service of Blackberry devices for a few days. The government blamed on the providers themselves and RIM (the manufacturer of communicators), allowing to send secure messages and encrypt conversations using the Blackberry.

To ensure the secure transmission of data for their devices RIM uses multiple distributed centers manage their network traffic between them and the end devices is encrypted, which prevents the majority of world governments to gain access to the information transmitted.

The encryption used RIM, was so good that the Security Service of the neighboring United Arab Emirates could not get access to reports of people using Blackberry, and therefore the maintenance of devices in the country was suspended.

These two countries - a relatively small market for RIM, but not such that they could be neglected. Arab news agencies estimate that more than 500,000 Blackberry devices are used in the UAE and another 750,000 in Saudi Arabia.

India, Russia and China have also put pressure on RIM, threatening to expel the company from their own markets, but relented when the company made concessions to allow their communicators listen.

Most countries have an agreement with RIM, reached during negotiations that the National Security Service could if required to decode and listen to the traffic devices Blackberry. For example in Russia, MTS and VimpelCom have the opportunity to sell these devices only when agreed to provide access to the data being transferred FSB.

India and China launch Blackberry services was also suspended pending the signing of an agreement with RIM and the security services. Although the company declined to comment on their agreements with government agencies, adding that he respects the laws and requirements of countries as well as the inviolability of private and corporate negotiations.

RIM says that the network was originally designed so that nobody, even the RIM could not get access to the data being transferred. In this case, the location of the servers does not matter. And the company has no "special button, clicking on which will be possible to get access to traffic.
Nevertheless, it is clear that the ability to decrypt the data exists and has been used successfully, although how it is implemented is not entirely clear.
