How does this happen? The principle is very simple - use a system of repeater signal, which transmit the signal to an electronic key, located in the pocket of the owner of the car, to a system of opening doors and engine plant. Signal transmission by such a system is possible over long distances - hundreds of meters, if not miles. Basically, it all depends on the number of repeaters and reliability of signal transmission.

The experts were able to hack PKES ten models of cars from eight different manufacturers. But the lack of such a system - a permanent broadcast signal, which is quite a catch, perhaps, strengthened and directed to a system of opening doors in the car.

The researchers used the ring to break the antenna, one of which was located closer to the system, opening the door lock, the second one was located close to the electronic key. The first antenna picks up and transmits a signal to the car, which is then passed to the second antenna, located near the key. That, in turn, reacted to the "native" signal, transmitting a signal back. Now second antenna picks up the key signal, passing the first antenna, located next to the door opening system. The latter, having received the familiar signal that opens the door and start the engine (for engine plant first antenna is moved directly into the car, and "thief" pressed the start button).

That's it - the car cracked and ready to ride for any distance. A small problem for the hijackers - some of the cars, having escaped the key to decent distance, begin to react in the cabin hear the engaged tone. But because the car is in motion, auto security system does not allow him to stop, and Hijacker can steer where you want. Other models of cars and does not respond to removal of a key. Of course, if the engine drown, he will not go anywhere. But the thief is unlikely to turn off the engine - in fact, you usually need to deliver the car to a known address, where it already takes a team of partners hijacker.

The researchers argue that this way of breaking the security is very simple, and car manufacturers should pay attention to this problem. Otherwise, a special distribution PKES not get - who needs a car that can drive away anyone who has the necessary equipment and little technical knowledge?
