Hackers are presented «kraken» to crack the encryption algorithm in gsmnetworks

As we all know, the vast majority of mobile working with the GSM-networks, this situation is observed in most countries. Mobile phone operating in GSM-networks, there are now about 3.5 billion worldwide. You can imagine how tasty morsel interception and wiretapping conversations on cell is for intruders of all kinds. However, all transmitted by GSM-network data is encrypted by the algorithm A5 / 1 (in most networks), and decode the transmitted data is not so easy (at least for casual hackers, it is clear that intelligence agencies have long used different equipment, allowing no problems all to do this). So, the encryption algorithm A5 / 1 is very quickly shown recently cracked software, called «Kraken».

Hackers has provided only preliminary information on this software, promising to make a full presentation at the conference security Black Hat.

Back in December of specialist enthusiasts has developed special cryptographic tables that facilitate and accelerate the process of breaking the algorithm A5 / 1. Now been finalized and the tables themselves, and the software, which now breaks the above algorithm in just minutes. Frank Stephenson, one of the authors of the development is not going to rest on our laurels and is already working on improving its "Kraken", so that the algorithm could be cracked in seconds, not minutes.

Experts say that with such a software process of breaking data encryption algorithm is so simplified and the cost of such hacking is so reduced that a little more - and almost no children will be able to buy the appropriate hardware and software for wiretapping conversations on a cell phone.

However, with the hardware a little snag - referred to the team with Frank Stephenson at the head is not going to complement its software to hardware-filling (ie, a device to intercept conversations), because they fear persecution by the representatives of the law. But they argue that, in principle, even developing a special needs nothing, there are already relatively cheap devices that allow easily intercept almost any conversation in a certain range.

Interestingly, even though The announced software that representatives of GSM Association said only that "breaking the encryption algorithm data in GSM-networks is very expensive, complicated and labor-intensive process." In general, so far no one not particularly worried about it. Perhaps, the information bomb "explodes" next week when hackers will demonstrate its software at the Black Hat? We'll see, but is still hope that hacker-boy from next door can not even listen to conversations on a mobile, whatever they say the guys from the GSM Association.
